Baby Basics: New Toys for Babies
In the spirit of the season of sale, particularly Christmas and Halloween sales, I know how all you new mommies out there are rarin’ to just buy toys and more toys for your little ones.In fact, I know of one new mommy who would buy anything with “educational” written on the box.
Here’s my own short guide to the best baby toys that you can prioritize now that your babies are less than a year old
1. Baby Gym tops the list of toy must-buys. A baby just cannot resist reaching for the hanging toys, particularly if they are compelling enough (in red, yellow or neon colors). In fact, some baby gyms are so provocative to babies (the dangling toys swivel and swing while he tries to reach them) that the baby cannot help but exercise by trying his best to kick and punch the offending dangling toys.
2. Stackable anything – Stacking is a baby’s fun hobby, and most of the fun is in the toppling down. A kid’s first lesson on anticipation comes with stackable toys. They put one block on top of the other just so they can see how many blocks they have to work with before they have to start from scratch again.
3. Squeakies – preferably those that ’squeak’ under water. These squeaky toys are his first friends, and while the squeaks are noise to us, these are ‘conversation’ to him.
