Why Acai? Because Oprah Said So!

I have always been an Oprah fan and for good reason. Her credibility has risen sky high that her company as well as all the products she endorses have reached phenomenal proportions. Some of the products she shared with her viewers are UGG Boots and Acai Berry. Maybe the manufacturers spent millions for Oprah to utter their brand name on air, but I think they know that the cost is worth it.

Acai berry (Genus Euterpe), in particular, is so hot right now. It could be just marketing but I think that the claims have a basis. It is a medicinal fruit and is supposedly a cure-all for our many ailments (but then so is apple!). There’s a catch to this product though… so many imitation Acai products have come out with the meteoric rise of this brand name. From what I see online, acai weight loss products are selling like pancakes, or the pinoy version, pandesal.

It’s too easy to claim that one health pill contains Acai. And, because moms tend to stick together and believe each other, it’s equally convenient to just buy the product after a glowing recommendation from a friend.

All I’m saying is … be careful. The marketing drive for Acai Berry is so intense nowadays that the most we can do is hope that the products we are buying (or promoting) are the real thing.
