AJ’s Block Castle: Bored Kids Misbehave or Become Creative

When you are faced with long rainy days when kids are forced to stay at home, it is inevitable that kids will be bored senseless. Not-so-new moms already know that boredom among kids will often, if not always, lead to trouble. What is a parent to do?

One way of battling kids’ boredom is to play with them. Find one Crafts book that fits your budget and just start creating. The crafts that you will create with your little tyke should be fun, easy, and inexpensive. Make sure that the colors involved in the project are interesting and varied. If not, then you too will become bored. Your little ones will be occupied for hours on end. Buy a set of blocks and let him experiment. However, make sure that you capture each creation on film. Better yet, get one of the Kodak easyshare cams at buy.com while the holiday sale is on. Digital photography is the way to go in this age of technology. A part of the reason why some folks don’t keep memories of sterling moments like this is because they have no way to capture them. A digicam is a good investment if you keep worrying about taking bad photos.

Here’s a photograph of one of AJ’s creations. See how he shaped his wooden blocks to look like a castle? It seems that he took my bed time stories to heart even if he never seemed to listen. Honestly, I don’t know where he got the idea. I really love how he chose the colors and how he painstakingly balanced each block and how serious he was while building the block tower.

It would have made me very happy if he painted the nonpainted blocks himself, but my new maid made it a point to hide the crayons. The baby once got a hold of every known crayon color and painted everything with reds and blues alternately. Crayons are now banned at home.

  1. Nice castle. Sounds like you had fun too. Good for your toddler! And neither of you was bored. I write a blog about boredom. Fairly new. I hope to have more about parents of small children later. Please check out my blog ThePowerOfBoredom.com
