Geek Parents Spawn Geeky Babies
First of all… yes, I accommodated projects during the holidays! For some reason, my 8 years of stress in Inno turned me into a project-seeking monster who panics at the thought of being free-from-work even for a few days.
Ok, maybe I am a bit of a workaholic, but that’s not exactly the reason for my diligence this time. It’s the spending. And I just added headphones to my shopping list. Here’s why:
When I’m working, AJ sits beside me and wears my headphones. He saw me talking on Skype with a client in the past and he thought that a headphone and a telephone are the same. He puts on the headphones and simply started uttering words like “hello” and “buh-bye”. Can you guess what happened next? Simply put, the headpiece/mic has become his. Not mine… his.
And the daddy told me to simply buy a new one.
How can I avoid work during the holidays, when I can virtually see the cash flowing out with all the events to attend and the shopping to do? I am normally a tightwad, but like any other bargain seeker, I still get attracted to anything that’s available at a discount, like these multimedia headset that’s on sale at buy.com. It’s more feature-packed than my first headset, but this time, I’ll be keeping it away from the curious baby who seems to want to be a call center agent someday.
I also got a potty trainer for the baby, and it’s what he sits on when he’s acting like mommy. For now though, he’s using an old briefcase as a “lap top” because the ones that are really functional (word processors for kids) are ot suitable for 3 year olds.
So much for my dreams of turning my son into a well-rounded, less-geeky individual, but nooo… he’s starting to show geek symptoms… and the weird thing is… I’m really proud of him for wanting to be a geek like mommy and daddy someday.
