How to Handle a Baby Tantrum?
Some days it’s fun, some days it’s hell. I am talking about the world of motherhood. You know, that time in a single girl’s life when she finds another person to care for other than herself.
My main gripe at being the way I am is my ineffectivity in handling baby tantrums. Usually, I just let it die, but my baby boy is different. He remembers the hurt even after I manage to get him into playing a game or watching tv. He will start crying again after a while and it’s not always fun.
Here are some of the tips I heard from other moms
1. Don’t cajole. Tell him he can’t go and be firm about it (not as easy as it seems, but doable).
2. Watch for signs that he’s ready to make peace. Sometimes, a baby’s anger is fueled by the fact that Mommy does not know when to hug and when to ignore.
3. Ride the storm. This means being ok with breakage. In fact, I have learned to keep the breakable things around the living room to a minimum. Usually baby does not mean to break anything, it’s just that he wants to lash out and the vase was in the way.
