What Are People Drinking Now?
After the initial shock of being in a calamity-ridden region has worn off, life is taking on a semblance of normalcy. That is… the relative kind of normalcy that people are forced into after they realize they’ve lost everything except their lives.
Right now, the aftershock of calamities are making people’s lives miserable. I reflect on this as I thoughtlessly stride over to my ref to get a snack, or to my water dispenser to drink cold water whenever I felt like it. Not only can’t others now afford to buy water purifiers or install a MWF filter, they can’t even get anywhere near cold water because their houses are still pretty much flooded.
My sister said that this calamity is a huge equalizer. Now, everyone lost at least something they own to nature. Everyone’s pretty much equal now, and the act of doing something that was once normal, like drinking clean water, has become a luxury.
