What it Means to Be an EcoTourist
Going green is a lifestyle. It’s not just something anyone can do when he feels like it. I love the concept, and now I’m looking into patronizing a new trend in travel… eco-tourism.
Because the Philippines is an Island country, this environmentally friendly move toward making the world a better place sits well with me. Eco-tourism in island countries means traveling and visiting the islands without harming nature. At the same time, ecotourism means appreciation of nature wherever you are. Focus on culture rather than waste (using styrofoam cups, etc). People who are drawn to eco-tourism may enjoy bird-watching, hiking, and other island activities that do not leave a negative impact on the area.
Whether you’re going to an island in the Bahamas, a quaint southeastern Asian country like the Philippines, or going local with Lake tahoe vacation rentals, each area has its own offerings of cultural experience and natural wonders. Many spots for island holidays are still unspoiled and secluded, while others are lively, urbane and exciting. What we need to understand is that no matter how developed an area is, it still needs a lot of TLC through ecologically safe practices.
Snorkeling and glass bottom boating are environmentally friendly tourism activities. Bermuda is surrounded with hundreds of square miles of reef formations, making snorkeling an interesting activity there. For the less adventurous, you can ride around in a glass bottom boat and view the beautiful undersea world.
Appreciation of sun-drenched beaches is one of the best activities in beach holiday destinations. When an area is white and sandy, and the weather is very warm, it’s best to hang out during the day sipping iced drinks with your family in a nipa shade somewhere.
