Set Up Your Home Office Once and For All
Despite what you might see from home and style magazines, you don’t need extravagant
office furniture to set up a functional home office. You only need a sturdy table for your laptop and printer, and a storage system where you’ll be keeping your references and notes.
Of course there are other products you can use to build a good storage system. You just need to look through a catalog of an office supply company or visit an office supply store to get ideas. I am the frugal type so I used a big box for my books and magazines for a long time. I soon got more storage supplies that fit under my desk and voila… instant office.
I know some working moms want to differentiate between work and homelife so they need a separate room for their home office. However, if you have a free corner of the living room, you can set it up there. Having a separate room means you’re going to have to CLEAN one whole room, while having a small space in a corner of the living room or under the stairs means you only have to do minimal clean up.
What you need to do is to keep paperwork organized on a desk. Don’t forget to recycle or throw out the things that don’t belong there. A small space wide enough to hold paper can be installed under the desk just for convenience.
You also need to keep all the old photograph albums or some large books you aren’t using somewhere else. The feeling of being inundated with clutter will keep you from working at your best.
