How to Seek Advice From Other Parents Without Being Too Pushy
No matter what you are trying to accomplish as a parent, you will almost always benefit from advice from other parents. However, some parents dislike talking about their personal life, and would you believe it, most of the time they think parenting techniques are too personal for sharing.
If you’re the friendly type, you may already have a group of parents that you share tidbits of information with. But what if you’re new to the neighborhood or you’re not the sociable type? What if you feel isolated from the established circles of village housewives? Those of us who live in the suburbs and stay at home don’t have much recourse but to ask advice from our old friends and family through the phone, but there’s no substitute for one-on-one talks with other parents, and listening in to conversations on parenting.
Here’s what I would do….
Sit Around with Other Moms While Waiting for Baby’s Dismissal Time
The golden times when you sit around with other parents waiting for your kids to get dismissed from class are awesome. You get to talk idly with the other parents and discuss anything under the sun, from cooking to the new trends in fashion, to the effectiveness of diet pills like adipex.
Just by opening your ears to small tidbits of info about how they get their kids to eat vegetables, and how they manage their homes, you can improve your own home management scheme. No one wants to admit that they suck at cooking or cleaning house, that’s why it’s great when you’re getting golden advice on the how-to’s of hands on motherhood from those who have been at it longer.
