How to Choose A Good Apartment
I admit, when I was single, I didn’t have enough “mommy sense” to know which apartment will be a good one. I went by nose, or should I say “by price” and chose an apartment that was dank and cold and literally a “hole in the wall”. There was one entrance, one set of windows and the place got clammy fast. These are not conditions I would have chosen if I was thinking of raising a kid in that apartment.
So, because of my experience, I can say that if I had to choose an apartment all over again for the me who was single then, it would have more windows, a place to air out clothes and a lot of nice fresh air. Dare I say it would have been in a suburb, not a city.
Most city apartments are admittedly not fit for living, and most land owners are more concerned about how many tenants they can cram into their building than better long-term sanitation and health. So it’s a tenants responsibility to maintain a good place. Installing some fixtures like a ceiling fan, a dehumidifier or a ventilator should make things easier. If you can, don’t do laundry at home but go to a laundromat so that you don’t have to deal with airing out your clothes when you don’t have enough space or fresh air to work with.
