So Many Talented Nurses, So Little Jobs to Train With
Browsing through healthcare job sites, I cannot help but think how many people are really interested in employment in the healthcare business. But there are so few jobs to start with, at least for training purposes. Most hospitals know that nurses and health care professionals are using the jobs as stepping stones to better careers, and this may be why they are a bit hesitant to “hire” and train people who will be gone in a few years.
So, what can nurses turn to if they cannot get jobs as nurses? There are many other specializations that you can turn to. You can take the option to take on administrative and clerical roles in different healthcare facilities. if you don’t mind not practicing what you learned in nursing for four years and you want fast cash, the job of the medical assistant is to take care of the details like bookkeeping, filling out and managing patient charts and files, arranging appointments and sometimes performing basic in-house medical procedures like taking care of sutures and dressing bandages.
Assistants in the medical field must have good communication skills and must be skilled enough in dealing with people to let them interact with sick individuals when paying a visit to the clinic. A lot of medical assistants eventually practice nursing when they see an opening, but some stay on as medical assistants for years, seeking employment in doctor’s offices and other places.
If equipment and tools are your thing, you might be interested in a career as a technician in a clinic. Of course you may need to get more training in a vocational or technical course, but this could be a lucrative job given the number of hospitals abroad.
A medical transcriptionists job is for me, the last resort, for someone who wants to get into the medical field. But I know a lot of people who study to be medical transcriptionists for the money. There are a lot of medical data that need transcribing, and most healthcare professionals who can diligently fill out forms and charts for patient data, histories and notes are qualified. Doctors make a tape recording of this and the medical transcriptionists review this vocal recording so that a hard copy can be made.
