Families on Road Trips: What to Expect

Categories: Family Quirks

Road trips are fun, especially if you’re travelling for the purpose of seeing new things. Some people would rather let others do the driving, but if you’re a hands-on person, you probably want to take your own car and do the driving yourself. Each road trip poses a challenge, especially if you’re bringing kids along. Here are some things that I picked up from various sources while preparing for a road trip.

The vehicle should be tuned up. Mechanics make a living out of families that want to take their vehicles for a road trip. Tuning up the car means you won’t have to worry about the trusty old vehicle losing steam while you’re away from home. There are various firms like 5th wheel insurance that can answer questions about what kind of coverage you might need for your recreational vehicle.

Weather changes. One thing that you need to prepare for is the shift in the weather. Another place’s geography may be prone to various weather changes, and you won’t have enough time to prepare for it if you’re already in the middle of a rainstorm or a sudden heat wave. Dressing for the local weather is also a good thing. If it’s sunny where you’re going, wear sunblock and light clothes a few hours before you get there.

Inform the kids about what the place is like to keep their imagination going and to increase anticipation. If kids are not bored and restless during the trip, they will enjoy the destination more.

Defining High Tech Living

Categories: Mommy Thoughts

What is your definition of high tech living? Living with gadgets can be overwhelming, but it never fails to amaze me how other people can really get into it. High technology can mean as many different things as there are canned product brands in the store. One way to live in a more frugal way that I discovered is to describe the high tech gadgets I plan to buy according to what technology means to me.

Appearance – If you define technology according to aesthetics, I would say most gadgets are minimalist in design. There are so few gadgets that come in big packages. The smaller and more minimalistic it is, the more expensive it will be. Of course, I’m referring to laptops (like this Asus Tablet Canada) and cell phones. You can learn a few things from the people who come up to you in the store to sell a small device that can do a lot of things despite its appearance. I think design plays a big role in why I would buy something.

New – If your definition of high technology means trying something new, then you’ll probably gravitate toward the devices that can do surprising things, like a CCTV monitor that can be disguised as a wall implement or a landline phone model that you can use to surf the internet with.

Convenient – This is a good definition for high tech gadgets. That they can save you time and effort means a lot, especially for moms who are handling various things at the same time.

What to Get Your Husband for Christmas

Categories: Mommy Thoughts

When shopping for men, you have to consider what they really want. Go by these things: comfort, convenience and bragging rights. Most of what men do are related to these three things. They shop quickly because they’re after convenience. They would wear the best brands because these are usually the most comfortable. They would go through so much to obtain tickets to a major sports match just because not all of their co-workers and friends can.

Convenience also has a lot to do with their liking for power tools. You can’t just go for power tools just because everyone says men like tools. What matters is you know what your hubby’s priorities are. If your hubby is into his car a lot, you can get accessories that make it more convenient for him to care for his car, like subaru custom floor mats, a car vacuum cleaner or a can of polish.

If comfort is high on his list, you can go for a new couch that he can laze around in when he’s watching his favorite shows on television. You can also get him a set of new tempur pillows so that he can sleep through the night without much trouble. If he has a lot of friends to brag to, get him several tickets to a game.

Men are not too difficult to please when it comes to presents. You just have to know what he really likes.

How to Break the Monotony of Daily Life

Categories: Mommy Thoughts

You know what they say about monotony, it could be the end of you. If life is boring and routine, there may not be enough instances to be inspired. And, not finding inspiration in daily life is bad for moms. We need to be inspired to be able to inspire and guide our kids. So, here are some of the things you can do to cheer yourself up every day.

1. Write a Poem – Staying at home doesn’t mean you cannot be creative. Write out something that talks of your life in the past, present and future. You can even write about things that never happened to you or that happened to someone else. Let your imagination loose.

2. Hobbies – Hobbies like cross stitch, knitting and crafting can be great for inspiration because they give you something to look forward to. If you’re knitting, you may find it relaxing to just sit down and work on something that your loved one would wear. Some people progress to other hobbies, like when they buy silver dollars for collections and buy stamps at the post office for mounting on an album.

Why Read Any Text You Can Get Your Hands On?

Categories: Mommy Thoughts

I used to watch a show called Reading Rainbow, and it fascinated me. Or I should say, it got me into books. Books are a part of life, which is not surprising because so many hands have worked on a specific book even before it reached your favorite bookstore’s shelf.

However, it’s no secret that we often just read the things we’re required to read, like those that our professors ask us to read in order to pass examinations. Most of us are stuck with a specific genre of books we like to read. We hardly ever open our minds to other texts that may help us in the long run. While information overload is a risk, I believe that there’s a world of knowledge that you’re missing out on if you don’t go beyond what you’re used to.

When the internet came, reading became more of a compulsion for me. Just by browsing through different websites, I learned about web development, products that I never knew existed, and more serious stuff like naltrexone acamprosate campral treatment centers. I do admit that I often read stuff online more than I read paper books, but that doesn’t mean I’ve given up on hard copies altogether.

I think my love for reading should be something I teach my child as early as possible.
